Then visit the beautiful Palermo Cathedral, dating from the 12th century and part of Unesco ’s list of World Heritage sites. See the Church of the Gesù, one of the most important Baroque churches in Palermo, as well as the Praetorian Palace, an outstanding palace of the 15th century. Continue to Pretoria Square, referred to by locals as the “square of shame” for the nudity of its fountain statues. You’ll also visit the nearby Bellini Square where you’ll see the Church of San Cataldo and Martorana Church, two more Norman Sicily era churches and Unesco World Heritage sites. Then continue to Modica and visit the oldest chocolate factory in Sicily. The city also has a rich history and a wonderful architectural heritage. Start your tour with a visit to Caltagirone UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its production of pottery, dating back to Arab dominations, with characteristic colors. Visit the historical center, the famous Staircase of Santa Maria del Monte, and the culture of pottery in the city. See the excellent colored glazes that adorn the streets, staircases, balconies, squares, fountains, churches, and palaces.
In the afternoon, head to Piazza Armerina to see the huge UNESCO-listed Villa Romana del Casale, originally belonging to a powerful Roman family.
